Press Release: Saturday the 27 April 2013 –  The Sanctuary of Love in Association with 3rd Ear Music presents its 3rd Annual Freedom Day Folk Music & Singer Songwriter Festival at the Melville Spiritualist Church grounds in Melville Beach, KZN South Coast.

These ‘Freedom Day’ festivals, as they have become known, are extremely popular South Coast Community gatherings – laid-back & casual, people bring their picnic baskets, blankets (AND don’t forget the children – and leave the iPods behind) to enjoy the tranquil Sanctuary grounds and listen to the acoustic words & music by local (and a few foreign visiting) musicians.

With over 25 stalls of local hand-crafts, art and food, there’ll more than enough to keep you enthralled. There will be the ever popular Sanctuary Tea Garden with homemade cakes & preserves, light lunches and good foods, as well as malt & wine, courtesy of The Rock Bottom Music Bistro.

As in previous years, the stalls will include the legendary Surf Shapers & board makers from Pumula, WEDGE SURF BOARDS and music instruments and spares from the Shelley Beach SOUTH COAST MUSIC CENTRE. Once again the ever popular South Coast Swami Gopala will provide his healing remedies & advice. Hayley Maaish will present a puppet show for the children & the Sanctuary will provide healing, reading and clairvoyant sessions. 3rd Ear Music will have a few historic Hidden Years Archive CDR’s and DVD’s for sale.

Safe and plenty parking (there will be no vehicles on the Sanctuary / festival grounds) and entrance is free; donations to the sanctuary and the musicians / performers will be welcome. Bring along any unwanted clothing or materials – kitchen utensils, pots, pans – all for charity.

There will be a prize of a printer, kindly donated by VIDICOM COMPUTERS, to whoever brings the most ‘impressive’ charity donation of goods or materials.

Please support the festival’s supporters: South Coast Community Forum, South Coast Music Centre & VIDICOM Computers.

THE JOLLY JAMMERS

“The Jolly Jammers” are a bunch of South Coast musicians who get together every Friday night and jam their hearts out. They love music, and sometimes the music loves them back… mostly they just have fun jamming. A strange happy bunch, with a lot of good energy.

Kenneth Baker plays the best Djembe ever!! You cannot help but to jive when he plays the drums; he also plays guitar and sings. He’s the host of those amazing Friday Nights. Sean Ross plays a great lead guitar and has some wonderful songs that he composes. Sam Selmer-Olsen,  reminds us where we came from with his classic numbers and he charms us with a really nice bass guitar. Anita Dumas plays some guitar and sings when she feels inspired. Charné Els aka Bambi, is still in school, gr.11, she’s got a lovely voice & writes her own songs and plays guitar. She can entertain for hours with her bubbly personality. James Vos does a bit of everything. He plays bass, lead & rhythm, djembe, sings… and he always has some really interesting tall tales to tell.
